The King is Celebrated at the "Prince of Persia" Premiere

Fashion News, Gemma ArtertonLos Angeles – Jake Gyllenhaal may be cinema's new "Prince of Persia," but even he bowed down to the real king of Hollywood on Monday, May 17, as the film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer was honored at Grauman's Chinese Theater before the film premiered there. Bruckheimer, who has been one of the most prolific producers in the history of both film and television, placed his hand and footprints into the concrete as a who's who of Tinseltown looked on.

There was a smiling Tom Cruise, seated next to Nicolas Cage, along with Bruckheimer's other favorite actors, including Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Voight, Sir Ben Kingsley, Tom Skerritt, Michael Clarke Duncan, Judge Reinhold, Jonathan Pryce, Kelly McGillis, and Gemma Arterton.

Arterton, Kingsley, and Gyllenhaal then took center stage as the stars of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," as the film premiere followed and the party kept right on going. Look one way, there were Bruce Willis and Eddie Murphy; look another, Orlando Bloom, Jon Lovitz and Seth Green. Directors Mike Newell, Jon Turtletaub and Tony Scott paid homage to the king, too. And while alpha Hollywood males were everywhere you looked, there were a few female Bruckheimer fans, too, like Michelle Monaghan, Melina Kanakaredes, Jaime King, Tia Carrere and Alanis Morissette.

Gyllenhaal summed up what everyone who has been part of the Bruckheimer empire, from the early days of "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Days of Thunder" through "The Rock," "Con Air," "Pirates of the Caribbean" and right up to "CSI," "CSI: NY" and "CSI: Miami," was thinking.

"To be playing the lead in a Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster movie based on a video game," Gyllenhaal said with a grin at an earlier press conference in support of "Prince of Persia," "I felt like my eyes would pop out of my head!"

Tomorrow's Shining Stars Revealed as Coutts New Jewellers Award Winners

Monday, May 10, 2010

Coutts London Jewellery Week has announced the winners of its inaugural Coutts New Jewellers Awards.
Coutts London Jewellery Week has announced the winners of its inaugural Coutts New Jewellers Awards.

Sixteen up-and-coming jewellers have been awarded the opportunity to draw on Coutts' unparalleled wealth of expertise working with SMEs and entrepreneurs via the Coutts Business Development Forum. Created to support and nurture new talent in jewellery design and craft, the Coutts New Jewellers Award-winners will receive advice on how to remain resilient during these testing economic times with a series of inspiring talks by industry and financial experts.

All sixteen winners have unveiled exciting plans for the Week, ranging from first-time exhibitions to collaborative shows and even jewellery recycling classes. These include Secret Garden - an exhibition organized by The Garden Studios of London celebrating Elizabeth Powell's first collection of sumptuous colors and delicate beauty - and sparkling showcases by Ana De Costa and Zoe Catherine Kendall at independent designer store Kabiri.

Elsewhere, Missoma and SHO Fine Jewellery will be forming an exciting collaboration with fellow designers to launch Rising Gems - an exhibition held at a chic cocktail evening in central London - representing the new faces of the London jewellery industry and casting a spotlight on what's fresh, fashionable and directional.

Coutts London Jewellery Week's annual Treasure showcase gives some of this year's Coutts New Jewellers a chance to sell direct to the consumer. Nina Koutibashvili and Ring Leader Urban Jewellery will be exhibiting new collections of inspirational, unique pieces at an event that is a platform for visionary design and new talent.

A number of Coutts New Jewellers will also be hosting individual exhibitions of their collections, including Alexandra Simpson's Wow! Jewels for London, CJS Inspired Design's "Inspiration", Ruth Tomlinson's "Love Ring" collection at Cockpit Arts, Holborn and Bex Rox's limited edition African showcase at Brown's. And Francesca Sibylla Augusta will be hosting Golden Age - a fun and flamboyant jewellery exposé which is one of a number of events planned for the Burlington Arcade.

Showcases aside, Leblas is inviting guest speakers from Vukani-Ubuntu, the largest mineral-beneficiation organization in the Jewellery sector in South Africa, while precious gemstone and diamond setters Roque will be offering guests the opportunity to 'try on' their collection using Holition's revolutionary 3D virtual mirror.

Representing the Coutts New Jewellers at the recent media launch for Coutts London Jewellery Week were Jessica de Lotz and Rachel Galley. Very different in style, both jewellers have exciting plans for the Week. Recent Central St Martin's graduate Jessica is offering a week-long schedule of events, ranging from daily demonstrations to "make do and mend" workshops. Meanwhile Rachel's jewellery will be available for preview at Cockpit Arts Open Studios and will include a new men's collection and a high end gem-set cocktail collection of bespoke items.

Sarah Deaves, Chief Executive, Coutts & Co commented: "This year, our involvement in Coutts London Jewellery Week is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to supporting the world of entrepreneurs and contemporary art and design. Today, we can count one third of our client base as successful business owners and we recognize the importance of supporting entrepreneurs of the future, through the early stages of their career. We're excited to be nurturing these 20 promising new jewellers, through the creation of the Coutts Business Development Forum, and we hope that the course will provide the delegates with a great insight into building a successful and resilient business through its time of most need."

Councillor Guy Nicholson, Board Chair of organizers the City Fringe Partnership, added: "This is a great opportunity for up-and-coming designers to be part of Coutts London Jewellery Week and have their ideas supported by a major financial institution. The Coutts New Jewellers Awards is a timely investment into the Jewellery industry in the capital and into the future of London's small business sector."

Street style: Celine's minimalist camel

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

The calendar may tell you it's Spring 2010 already, but the weather begs to differ. So the transseasonal pieces, including the camel coat, remain popular - wear them (or invest in them) now, and you'll still have use for them come Fall 2010. Stylist Ludivine Poiblanc gives her minimalist Celine camel coat an outing in Paris.

Accessories, Clothes, Coats and Jackets 2010Snapped during Paris Fashion Week by All The Pretty Birds, we're told there's also a fair bit of layering going on here (alas the picture doesn't reveal much of it in detail):

Ludivine Poiblanc's subtle mix of texture and combination of color is so refined. She's got herringbone, cashmere, leather, wool and suede in her infusion of style. And the flavor is concentrated in her amazing Celine camel coat!

SOCIAL MEDIA GOES FASHION

JustProud is a fast growing social community for everyone who wants a career in fashion or who is passionateabout it. Get discovered through JustProud or see it as a stepping stone. The community driven fashion brandenables members to upload their design, share opinions, participate in photo shoots and more. All for thepurpose of creating their own fashion brand. How does it work?

At JustProud.com designers upload their designs. Models and photographers connect their profile to the designs they believe in. Then all members have the opportunity to vote and decide what getsproduced, featured and who wins a photo shoot. It is the community who decides!“There are two kind of photo shoots”, explains Geert Rietbergen the founder.

“Frist there is a local shoot whereone item is featured”. The expenses will be little, because the designer, model, make-up artist andphotographer simply receive a share of the sales profit for the item. Then there will also be an international shoot for the entire collection.

Those expenses will be covered by JustProud.According to Rietbergen the fashion industry is very ‘top-down’: A designer decides what happens with hisdesign. “Our new concept is more than just creating clothing, it’s collaboration. The buyer decides what he/shewants to see launched.” In the meantime there already has been a co-creation event after which JustProudrapidly grew. “In the community we create things together, people share their opinion”, says Rietbergen. “It isup to the designer to see whether he adjusts the design due to the comments”.Rietbergen established JustProud together with Djon Kleine in October 2009.

Since then the community has reached over 13.000 members worldwide. Keep in mind that you don’t have to work in fashion or beexperienced to join; everyone is welcome to become a member. With work experience in online marketing, Rietbergen knows better than anyone how to launch a product on the internet. “In October we launched a pre-site, where we explained the concept. At this moment we have a more developed beta-version of the site, thefinal version will be launched after the summer. The online store will be available in May so you can see thefirst designs”.

Double in Brass by The Lake & Stars

Lingerie favourite The Lake & Stars are doubling in brass. And if you're wondering what we mean by that, here's your random lesson for the day: to double in brass is a Victorian era term which originated in the circus; when a performer was expected to ply more than one craft (like a brass player in an orchestra). It went on to refer to taking on a second job. And that's what The Lake & Stars have done with this collection for Urban Outfitters - it's a younger sister line bringing the brand's lingerie as outerwear looks to the masses.

But enough etymology lessons... now let's look at some super-pretty lingerie.

Gisele Bundchen First Ad Campaign After Giving Birth

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Gisele Bundchen is back in the spotlight after giving birth with her first baby, Benjamin. Gisele's first ad campaign after giving birth were released an d I must say that she looked stunning in Colcci ads. Imagine, the photo shoot for the said ads were taken just six and a half weeks after she gave birth!

Nymag consulted their resident retouching expert for the possible photo manipulation and according to the experts,"Her skin is Photoshopped, and that solid backdrop makes retouching her shape super easy and hard to pinpoint. Mostly it's her face that scares me here, as her eyes are pointed different directions."

After looking at the photos, I discovered that indeed her eyes are weird. Check the rest of Gisele Bundchen's first ad campaign after giving birth.
