Five Great Flats, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Let's not forget about practicality ladies. Platform pumps and sky high boots are sexy and trendy but when you're in a rush and have to run to get somewhere, nothing does the job better than a pair of fabulous flats.

Keep up with the trends with this plaid woven straw Thatch Ballet Flats by Stuart Weitzman. The sweet bow and trim keeps it feminine and elegant. Available from Saks Fifth Avenue for a bargainous $85.90.

When I think Juicy, I think cheesy and yes this pair doesn't let me down there but I have to admit - it's damn cute. Grosgrain ribbon and the signature Juicy charm trims the edge of this snake-printed flat. If you look carefully, there are small studs on the sole of the heel so it's especially great for when its slightly icy outside. Available from Nordstrom at $190.

Loving the metallic trend but can't decide between gold, silver and copper? Wear them all at once with these Veronica flats by Charles Albert. Available from delia*s at
$25
.

I love the patent tube bow on this pair. I first came across this design at the store itself a few weeks ago before the entire F/W collection was available on the floor. The pair I saw were a pair of gorgeous red platform chuny heeled pumps. I fell in love with them at first sight but this also fits the bill. If you're a fan of the tailored look, then don't hesitate to invest in these for the winter. Available from Bluefly for $416.

Looks a bit weird at first glance and I hated them at first. But after having seen them on a friend's feet, they grew on me. These Albany pointed toe ballerina slippers by Pedro Garcia are black satin with ruffles on the toe and a zig-zag trim around the foot. Available from net-a-porter for £110.64.

Fashion Designer Tip of the Day, Golden Girl, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Gold is the metallic shade of the season as witnessed everywhere from YSL to Christian Dior. It's never too early to start thinking about all those fabulous parties you'll be invited to this upcoming holiday season so start planning now so you'll know exactly what to wear. Make sure to choose slightly muted gold tones to avoid looking like a giant Christmas decoration.

This strapless party dress by Adrianna Papell isn't overly flash and is perfect for that first date at a fancy restaurant or intimate cocktail party. It has ornate caviar beading embellishments and a removable metallic ribbon to tie at the waist, or if you're well endowed, just under the bust. Available from Nordstrom for $158.

If you want something a little less feminine and flirty, and a little more edgy, check out this Jacquard Shift Dress by Hamish Morrow. This peach and gold silk blend jacquard hits just below the knee. Wear with leggings and black long sleeves as shown here or wear on its own and tie a black satin sash around the waist to give it a bit of shape. This is perfect for those with a boyish figure and is similar to the YSL dress - sans bow of course - as above. Finish the look off with a belted trench coat, styled to perfection to reveal just a hint of metallic peeping through. Available from Net-a-Porter for £423.83.

For those in a sexy mood and killer legs, this Sophie 3/4 Sleeve dress by Foley for Foley + Corinna is a must buy. Wear it with flats when meeting up with the girls for a coffee during the day and then slip into stilettos at night for maximum impact at the hottest clubs. Available at shopbop.com for $291.

Girls with curves and a bust to boot should showoff in this backless number by Massimo Danieli. This figure hugging dress is sure to dazzle at even the glitziest cocktail party. Available from Yoox for $276.12.

The Jimmy Choo Mahala Bag, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Monday, September 4, 2006

No, it's never a good thing to start dressing like Tara Reid. But, what is acceptable is coveting the black Jimmy Choo Mahala she has in her hands. Already having been snapped by the paps on the arms of Keira Knightley, this patent leather zip bag is set to become the Ramona of the upcoming F/W season. In fact, it's on all the Jimmy Choo ads this season featuring Molly Sims.

Available from Neiman Marcus for $1,895.

Designer Fashion Tip of the Day, Geometric Prints, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Sophia Bush rocked this geometric print dress by Calvin Klein at the Pre-Emmy Awards party. The same dress has also been seen on Mena Suvari and Jamie-Lynn Sigler. There has been an explosion of bold prints cropping up in stores everywhere.

This Hammered Satin Graphic Belted Dress is a favourite of celeb stylist Rachel Zoe's who has recently partnered up with Revolve Clothing to bring out several looks for Fall. Wear it as a dress to work or hike it up and secure with a belt and skinny jeans as in Rachel Zoe's selected look. Available from Revolve Clothing for $341.

I love this eyecatching yellow and green print jersey tunic by T-bags. Wear with leggings or skinny jeans. The deep V-neck is perfect for those of you who want to show off a bit of cheeky cleavage. Available from shopbop.com for $154.

I'm a huge fan of this wide v-neck Harkham Jersey Belted dress. The geometric leaf print is fun yet sophisticated. The matching leather belt comes with the dress and gives it that extra feminine touch. Change up the belt depending on your mood and ocassion. Available from pinkmascara for $260.

You can't stand out more than with this bold electric blue 60s silhouette dress by Misile. Make the most of summer with it. Available from leFashionista for $210.

Emporio Armani Spring/Summer 2007 London Fashion Week, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

I can appreciate where he's coming from with the graphic geometric patterns, the bold primary colors red and blue with dashes of black and white, the zig zag renditions of abstract art are a witty bid to mix eclecticiscm with the Thirties. The skirts are short and silhouettes poufed up and out then tightly held in with banded hems. Small lacquered dome shaped hats donned the heads of the majority of models but there is a lack of sophistication and elegance. The collection oozes sex but not in the sultry way a real woman would want it. I miss their signature greys/sands and shimmery evening gowns.

Paris Hilton at the MTV VMA's 2006, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Friday, September 1, 2006

Oh Paris! I made a bit of a show posting about how cute she has been looking lately and then she shows up to the MTV Video Music Awards looking like this. Granted, the VMA's aren't exactly known for their red carpet looks, but this is a serious case of a star gone seriously blind. A disaster that is comparable to Bjork's famous Swan Suit, this mish mash of tutu, waist belt and trendy ankle boots is just too much. Not to mention the Double C Chanel earrings and the Double C Chanel half gloves. Not a good look.
