Forbes' 2008 The Celebrity 100

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Yesterday, Forbes released a special report on this year's The Celebrity 100 list. It is a list of the world's most powerful and best-paid celebrities. To generate the list, Forbes estimates celebrity earnings, then factors in media metrics like Google hits, press mentions as compiled by Factiva, TV/radio mentions from Lexis/Nexis and the number of times an A-lister appears on the cover of more than 50 consumer magazines. Earnings estimates are from June 2007 to June 2008 and consist of dollars earned solely from entertainment-related income. Management, agent, and attorney fees are not deducted.

Who made it to the top ten?

#1 Oprah Winfrey

Even if the ratings for The Oprah Winfrey Show decreased, Oprah remains on the top of the list. She will be in partnership with Discovery Communications next year and also has a three-year, $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio.

#2 Tiger Woods

As he won his ninth PGA Player of the Year award and a seventh Vardon Trophy, he also bagged the inaugural FedEx Cup, earning $10 million payout. After going solo since 2003, the Beyonce has released two platinum albums and built a wildly successful entertainment empire that includes fashion, film and publishing deals. She sold $50 million in tickets on a recent tour. Her endorsement contracts, with L'Oréal, American Express and others, bring in $10 million annually.

#5 David Beckham

David's salary for Los Angeles Galaxy was only $5.5 million but he's earning more than double from merchandise and sponsorship revenues. He had deals with Sharpie, Giorgio Armani, vitamin company Go Free, Adidas, Motorola and Pepsi.

#8 The Police
The late-1970s rock band reunited at the 2007 Grammys performing its hit "Roxanne." Then they set off on a world tour, selling out $200 million worth of tickets and played to 4 million fans.

#9 J.K. Rowling

Her adventures of teenage magician Harry Potter and his classmates at Hogwarts became a children's literary sensation in 1998 with the U.S. publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The six subsequent books have now sold 375 million copies worldwide. The final one, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has sold 44 million since it was published last July, including 15 million in the first 24 hours.

Shoe Fleur: A Footware Fantasy

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

I was amazed by the nature's beauty when I had seen Michel Tcherevkoff''s designs and photographs, which are inspired by nature and made of a plants and flowers.

According to Luxury Culture, Michel's concept had started while working on a campaign for client Estee Lauder. He was captivated by a prop made from a banana leaf because the it recalled the form of a shoe. After playing with plant's forms, reshaping, angling them, and applying various lighting scenarios for photographing, Michel was able to have his maiden creation called "La Premiere".

The photographs from "Shoe Fleur: A Footware Fantasy" were exhibited at New York's Museum of Arts and Design last year. For those who missed the exhibit, the photos will be displayed at Paris's Le Bon Marche this June through August 2008.

Angelina Jolie In Vanity Fair July 2008 Issue

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

Angelina Jolie will be on the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine for July 2008 issue. She opens up about her pregnancy, motherhood, and her always-expanding international family during the interview:

Angelina Jolie on being pregnant: "I love it. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel that all the things about my body are suddenly there for a reason. It makes you feel round and supple, and to have a little life inside you is amazing. Also, I'm fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depending on their partner. I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody (Brad Pitt) who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy."

Angelina Jolie on Shiloh's 2006 birth in Namibia: "We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born. I don't think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. It ended up being the greatest thing... I had a C-section and I found it fascinating. I didn't find it a sacrifice and I didn't find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do."

Angelina Jolie on her growing international family: "When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn't have parents. It's not a humanitarian thing, because I don't see it as a sacrifice. It's a gift. We're all lucky to have each other. I look at Shiloh — because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little — and say, 'If these were our brothers and sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were six that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?' I suppose I'm giving them the childhood I always wished I had."

Eva Mendes Campaign Ad for CK's Secret Obsession Was Banned!

Monday, June 2, 2008

This coming September 2008, Calvin Klein will be launching their new feminine fragrance in the Obsession series called Secret Obsession. The ad campaign features naughty and provocative Eva Mendes that made TV networks unhappy. As a result, Stateside TV networks banned the commercial that was shot by Steven Meisel.

However,
Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American fragrances for Coty Prestige who produce the scent vowed to fight the censorship decision. She explained, “The Obsession brand resonates in a very provocative place. And we wanted to do a provocative ad. But we’re not trying to be raunchy. There’s a lot of skin, but it’s done tastefully.”

What can you say? It seems that Eva Mendes displayed more of her skin these past few days.
