Monday, September 25, 2006

If you have a lazy afternoon date coming up and want to splurge, this is the perfect outfit!

This black organza minidress by Paul and Joe is too cute for words. I'm not usually a fan of their stuff but I can't resist this. If it's cold outside, wear leggings underneath. Available from My Wardrobe for $1,753

Match it with this red leather clutch by Scooley. Also comes in black and grey which would also look fab with the dress. Available from lefashionista for $360

Finish it off with this futuristic shoe by Ruthie Davis. I adore this shoe. It goes well with dresses and skinny jeans, I just love love. Available from girlshop for $298

Fashion Designer Tip of the Day, Steal Victoria Beckham's Style, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

I personally love Posh. She was my favorite Spice Girl and I always knew she would be most famous once they disbanded... of course I was right. No thanks to her marrying Becks, although to be fair, she was far more famous than David when they hooked up. I love this look here. Some may think its try-hard but I think its effortless, with just the right amount of leopard to pull it off.

This dress isn't as short as Victoria's (but it depends on how tall you are), but let's face it, the majority of us couldn't pull of Posh length anyway! Available from Neiman Marcus for $260

Tie this Calvin Klein belt loosely around your waist and if the dress is far too long for you, you can hike it up slightly. Available from bluefly for $18.

The boots Victoria's wearing are from the Balenciaga F/W 06/07 collection. I actually thought they were hideous on the runway and couldn't for the life of contemplate how anyone was supposed to wear that shape but she actually manages to pull it off. These Lanvin boots are a great alternative. Available from Browns for £490

And of course, this Marc Jacobs Leopard Chain Link satchel has been seen everywhere. Available from Saks for $1950.

Emporio Armani Spring/Summer 2007 London Fashion Week, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

I can understand where he's coming from and what he's trying to do; the strong primary colors red and yellow with dashes of black and white, the graphic geometric patterns and zigzag renditions of abstract art are all attempts to meet eclectcism with the Thirties. The mood is playful but its certainly something unlike Armani has done before. The hemline was cut short and the proportions were voluminous and then tightly held in by banded hems. But I miss the greys, sands and the flowing metallic gowns that Armani does so well.

Fashion Designer Tip of the Day, How to Wear Short Dresses, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Friday, September 22, 2006

When I think of Courtney Cox, I think of Friends, not fashion icon. But these pictures prove she does have style intelligence that we may have otherwise missed due to her seemingly non-existant career after the hit show ended. What we learn from Courtney is how to wear the dresses of the season.

If you have a curvacious body and you're going to wear a short shift dress, then don't go for V-necks or lower scoop necks. If it's a button up, do not button it up all the way to the top as Jessica Simpson does here. Leave the top few buttons undone or it will make you look top-heavier than you already are. If you insist on buttoning it all the way to the top as Jessica does, don't wear boots. If you're going to cover you're entire upper body like that, then at least wear platform pumps or strappy sandals to make you look longer and leaner.

The best kind of short dresses to wear if you've got Jessica's curvy body are sleeveless dresses or ones with capped sleeves. It will elongate your arms and balance out your body.

Courtney Cox has it perfect here. Down to her Chloe platforms!

Rachel Zoe and Mischa Barton Oopsy-daisy!, Couture in the City Fashion Blog

Oopsy-daisy! Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe is most well known for getting paid $5000 a day to dress celebs to look like her, but this is taking the piss! Similar style yes, but the exact same dress? Major fashion boo-boo. Mischa really should have known better too. Rachel Zoe is how much older than her? The print is frumpy and shouldn't be worn on anyone under the age of 30, which is why Rachel Zoe managed to rock it.
